The picturesque belvedere of Peccioli is a place steeped in history. In this location once stood the ancient fortress of the medieval castle, likely composed of two towers. This fortress is depicted, albeit with a single tower, in the coat of arms of the Municipality of Peccioli and in the medallion of the cloak of San Verano, which is preserved in the Museum of Sacred Art. During the Second World War, the medieval fortress was completely destroyed, but its historical significance has been preserved through the work of Vittorio Messina called 'Acropolis,' which reminds us of how essential this place is to the history of the village. The same artist also created 'Fontana,' which is located at the base of the staircase leading to Castellaccia.
